Typical Anxiety Medication for Patients
Apart from psychotherapy, several anxiety medications in the market prove to be effective allies in alleviating anxiety and panic attacks. Their main purpose is to correct the imbalance in neurotransmitters that has triggered such attacks. However, these anxiety medications have to be used with utmost care because they have caused some dependency issues in the past. Government efforts of controlling them have been imposed; however, it is still the responsibility of the immediate family to monitor the dosage, timing, and frequency of using these anxiety medications.
Most anxiety attacks exhibit symptoms of depression or unlikely elation. Sometimes the emotions heighten to a point that it poses dangers to one’s self and to others. The role of anxiety medications known as benzodiazepines is to sedate the patient and bring him back to a calmer state in about 30 to 60 minutes. The popular generic names of these anxiety medications include chlordiazepoxide, clonazepam, diazepam and lorazepam. However, they are one of the most habit-forming anxiety medications therefore, it is necessary to store them away in proper containers when bought in bulk. These drugs may cause unsteadiness, drowsiness, reduced muscle coordination and problems with balance. However, the benefits of these medications always outweigh the side effects.
The safer anxiety medication is known buspirone. Although it may take weeks for it to exhibit its effects, however, it does not pose dependency issues problems. However, like most medications, side effects are almost inevitable yet bearable. The more common side effects of this drug include lightheadedness, headaches, nausea, and insomnia.
The use of anxiety medication may come in conjunction with anti-depressants because they both alter and influence the activity of certain neurotransmitters that are elevated or lowered in these attacks. As more and more medications are invented, the hope of eradicating the stigma of anxiety attacks is bright and looming.

Three words: Fighting anxiety again.Random Fact: In 1997 I was diagnosed with a severe case of general anxiety disorder. I was on medication for it for 2 years and then weaned myself off. I haven't been on anything for it since, and I don't care to restart. But lately the anxiety has been eating through me again, and I am kind of a mess.>
